Chrysoperla – Chrysoperla carnea (Lacewing Larvae)
Beneficial Insect Live Product Cool Shipping
Application & Target Crops
For the control of aphids, thrips, and spider mites in vegetable crops and berry fruits (excluding strawberries) in open field and greenhouse cultivation, in ornamental crops under glass, and in pome and stone fruit outdoors. Additionally for aphid control in ornamental crops outdoors and in strawberries (outdoors and under glass).
Mode of Action
The adult lacewing is 1–2 cm in size. Aphids, thrips, and spider mites are captured and sucked dry. One larva can consume up to 500 aphids during its development.
Practical info: Lacewing larvae are most active at dusk, very undemanding in terms of climate, and also effective indoors. After about two weeks (depending on temperature and food availability), they pupate. The adult lacewings then feed on pollen.
Application
- Starting temperature: Recommended from about 8 °C.
- Release: Distribute the beneficial insects directly onto infestation hotspots. Repeat every 14 days if necessary.
Dosage (guidelines)
- Vegetables & berries (field & greenhouse), ornamentals under glass: 5–10 larvae/m²
- Ornamentals outdoors, pome & stone fruit (up to 2 m canopy height), strawberries (field & greenhouse): 10–50 larvae/m²
Notes
Recommended for light to moderately strong infestations. For reliable aphid control, combine with aphid parasitoids. Storage: up to 2 days at ~6 °C; store the bottle horizontally and in the dark.
