Macromite – Macrocheles robustulus
Beneficial Live product Chilled shipping

Mode of action

The adult soil-dwelling predatory mite feeds on thrips pupae as well as on eggs, larvae and pupae of fungus gnats (young gnat larvae are preferred). Unlike many other beneficials, Macrocheles robustulus is soil-active: applied to the substrate, not to the plants. Eggs/nymphs are white, adults are brown. Approved under glass in vegetable and ornamental crops and strawberries.

Directions for use

  1. Preparation: Gently shake the can (to homogenize contents).
  2. Application: Evenly sprinkle the carrier onto the substrate/pots or blow-distribute with suitable equipment.
  3. Timing: As early as possible (preventive/at first symptoms). Repeat if required.

Application rates (guidelines)

  • Standard: 100–250 individuals/m² (depending on infestation).
  • Indoor variant: 250 soil predatory mites/m² (one can of 50,000 pcs treats approx. 200 m²).

Combination: Works very well with other predatory mites (e.g. Amblyseius cucumeris) for effective thrips control.

Notes & storage

  • Contains all stages (eggs, larvae, nymphs, adults) in an inactive carrier.
  • Prefers humus-rich, moist and not overly compact soils; minimum temperature approx. 15 °C.
  • Shelf life: up to 2 days at 10–15 °C; store cans horizontally and in the dark.
  • Indoor only for the “250/m²” variant.
